PET AL PE Bags | Pet/AL/PE Barrier Bags & Flexible Packaging

What Everyone Ought to Know about PET/AL/PE

According to research, packaging is the main instrument for achieving an edge in a competitive market.

It's a means of communication between your brand and your customers. Color and design will lure your customer to your product, among the many others on the shelf. The quality of the film, its touch, the text, your brand are also features that will help your customer decide.

We have many packaging materials to fit different needs. If you seek high barrier, you will want to consider PET/AL/PE.

What is PET/AL/PE?

CareFoil

The PET/Al/PE is a laminated plastic film typically composted of three base films that have been  non-solvent laminated together into a single material that is subsequently printed with logos, graphics, and finally converted into finished bags, pouches or roll stock. Each layer has unique specifications that are combined to achieve a high barrier, higher strength, and printing finish or effect.

This basic structure PET/AL/PE can be modified with the addition of additional materials and coatings, such as PVDC, EVOH, and nylon.

For most uses, the base lamination is the best choice and one of the favorites in the packaging industry. But if there are some specific requirements of your packaging project, modifications should be considered.

The outer layer is made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), known as Mylar. This material is a multi-purpose transparent plastic with high strength, heat resistance, chemical stability, and electrical insulating properties. It also provides an excellent barrier against oxygen and a moderate moisture barrier.

PET is a stable film, so it doesn't stretch during printing and lamination. It is approved as safe to be used with foods and beverages by several health agencies such as the FDA and EFSA. This material's main job is to protect the product inside and the other layers while serving as a printing surface.

The middle layer consists of Aluminum foil. Molten aluminum is shaped in ingots and then pressed into hot rolling mills to make it thinner. When ingots are 5 mm, they are spooled and sent to cold rolling mills where the thickness will be reduced even more.

At this stage, the aluminum foil is very thin, and it could break with the tension. So, two sheets are placed together into the cold mills for the last reduction in thickness. The side in contact with the rollers ends up being shiny, while the other side comes out with a matte finish.

This final foil sheet has the highest barrier performance against gases, moisture, and light, with a WVTR and OTR near zero (typically .006 or .005). But aluminum foil lacks strength and can easily rip or tear, so it can't be used by itself. Also since the aluminum film is easily folded, the sheet could wrinkle and form pinholes that can disable its barrier efficacy. Hence the importance of the other layers. Also, the foil sheet alone wouldn't be an excellent choice for packaging since it doesn't have a sealing property. And that is when the next layer steps in.

The inner layer is Sealant layer is typically Polyethylene (PE). PE is a synthetic resin made from the polymerization of ethylene. This material is essential due to its melting point (around 110 °C). Since the other layers are not easily melted, PE can be hot sealed, adding extra protection and scalability to the packaging.

Use and Applications

Food
food items sensitive to moisture loss or gain such as dried fruit, stews, pet foods and powder products, or liquids and purees.

General Use

The aluminum foil in the film is reflective, so it is used as a thermal insulator in ice bags, sunshades, building insulation, and even emergency blankets.

Industry
This film structure also finds many uses in other industries for all sorts of products: chemicals, fertilizer, beverages, packaging machine parts, coatings, and powders.

Why choose this lamination film?

PET/AL/PE is the best choice when you need an enhanced moisture barrier film. Fats, oils, vitamins, and chemicals can lose their original properties due to oxidation. Pet food and snacks can get soggy from contact with water, as cookies can get dry and hard from water depletion. UV light can deteriorate aroma and flavors from teas and spices. These features are key requirements for optimal shelf life, especially when dealing with products that spoil easily as baby food and freeze-dried foods.

There are several considerations to make when choosing the ideal film for your packaging:

Costs

Remember that superior barrier materials have higher prices, it's important to make sure your product actually needs this type of plastic film.

At CarePac, we are aware it is challenging to choose your food packaging film. That's why we have specialists always available to help you make the right decision for your brand. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us at (number).

making it an excellent choice for wholesale.

Other Laminate Structures

It is possible to add more laminations according to your brand and product's needs. We offer several variations of this material to meet different technical specifications.
Here are some of the options we have with their benefits:

- PET/AL/NYLON/PE = (normal heat, with extra tear strength by adding nylon.
- OPP/AL/PE = Different exterior finish (Matte)
- PET/AL/CPP = Heat
- PET/AL/RCPP = High heat.
- PET/AL/NYLON/RCPP = High heat, high strength for boiling applications.
