Types of Flat Pouches
There are several flat pouch configurations to choose from. The most popular flat pouch styles are:
2-seal and 3-seal bags. The primary difference is that with 2-seal pouches the bottom is a continuous run of materials while 3-seal bags have a sealed bottom. Other Flat Pouch configurations include poly bag sodder edge bags, and fin-seal flat pouches.
3 Seal Pouches
3-seal pouches are sealed on three sides and come in two configuration styles. Top loading and bottom loading. Top load bags are loaded by you through the same end the consumer will extract the product, while bottom load is the opposite.
2 Seal Pouches
2-seal fold over lay flat bags are similar to 3-seal but the bottom of the bag is a single continuous fold of materials. The fold over bottom is a traditional style of pouch and has some advantages with powdered products over three seal pouches.
Fin Seal Pouches
Fin-Seal style bags are a configuration that is more typically associated with form fill seal machine bags. But some customers prefer this well known configuration over other flat bag configurations, because consumers are accustomed to it.
Poly Bags
Poly bags are a low cost configuration which is good for low barrier bag uses such as retail carry away uses. Poly bags are a traditional soldered sides which are not as strong as the sealed sides found on 2-seal and 3-seal pouches.

Flat Pouches
Sometimes called “custom lay-flat pouches”, these pouches lay down flat on a counter and are often used in the food and snack industries for coffee and teas, granolas and cereal, supplements, and snacks. This isn’t to say that they can’t be used in other industries - our customers also use a custom lay-flat pouch for pet food, household products, and beauty supplies, or for mailing a sample.

Q: How many do I have to buy?
We make it easy for our customers and have very low MOQs. We do prototyping runs as low as a few hundred bags with CarePac Express, all the way to full production runs and plate printing starting at 5,000 bags.
Q: What is the difference between a flat pouch and a stand up pouch?
A flat pouch does not have a gusset and cannot stand up on the shelf. As the name implies, a flat pouch lays down flat on the shelf while a stand up pouch stands up.
Q: Can a flat pouch have a window to view the product?
Yes. This is one of the many customization options you can add to your bag.
Q: What sizes of custom flat pouches are available?
Unlike a lot of companies, we do all custom sizing. We can do as small as a 1”x2” cosmetics sachet, up to very large vacuum bags. Just let us know the dimensions and we’ll get it done!
Q: Can you make child resistant flat pouches?
Yes we can. If child resistant packaging is important to you, just let us know and we’ll make it happen.
