Eco-Friendly Cosmetic Packaging

Customizable Tin Tie Bag Options

In a society that’s becoming more aware of the long-term impact waste has on the planet, it’s just as important to package cosmetics in an eco-friendly way as it is to package cosmetics in a hygienic, safe, and eye-catching way. Fortunately, our line of eco-friendly cosmetic packaging can help you make the planet a better place for future generations.

At CarePac, we have over a decade of experience in the packaging industry, and we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of industry trends and changes. One of the biggest changes to hit virtually every industry, including the cosmetics industry, is the switch to eco-friendly packaging. Learn more about CarePac’s eco-friendly cosmetic packaging and how you can make the switch.

Post-consumer recycled, or PCR, is just one of our sustainable packaging solutions. This type of plastic uses recycled plastics that would have ended up in landfills and turns them into new packaging that looks and feels like high-end, brand-new packaging. In addition to being a sustainable option, PCR has other benefits, including the fact that it requires less energy to produce than other PETs, is resistant to cracking, and offers the same durability as PET plastics.

Eco-friendly option 2: Compostables

“Compostable” is the blanketed term for any product that can disintegrate into non-toxic, natural elements. Because they break down into natural elements (usually within 90 days), they cause no harm to the environment and are becoming an increasingly popular choice for packaging. CarePac currently offers a variety of compostable substrates for our custom compostable packaging, including PLA, NatureFlex, PBS, PBAT, and PE+D2W.

Eco-friendly option 3: Recyclables

Recyclable materials still have useful chemical properties after serving their original purpose and can be remanufactured into new products after use, although they’re usually only able to be remanufactured once. Although many businesses focus on using recyclable materials, the unfortunate truth is that much of it still ends up in landfills and oceans. If you opt for recyclable packaging, clearly state how the end-users should properly discard the packaging.

Tips for being more eco-friendly
with your packaging

If you’re looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly (other than switching up your packaging materials), here are a few tips we put together specifically for companies in the cosmetics and beauty industry.

Tip: Switch from pumps to cosmetics sachets
If you’re currently using pump bottles for your creams and liquids, consider using compostable single-use sachets instead. While this might seem like more packaging than a pump bottle, it could actually have less of a carbon impact because the compostable is made of bioplastics, which is part of a normal carbon cycle (vs. adding more.)

Tip: Avoid greenwashing
Many brands get called out on greenwashing, which is the term used for companies that try to persuade the public that their products and policies are environmentally friendly when they really aren’t. If you don’t use eco-friendly packaging, don’t claim you do -- it’s bad for your reputation and even worse for the environment.
Tip: Always ship products together
Another common practice that seems to be slowly going away is shipping items one by one as they become available in the warehouse vs. waiting until the order is complete. At a minimum, give customers the option to have all their items sent in one box. You’d be surprised how often your customers are willing to wait, especially if it has a small impact on the environment.
